Virginia Early Childhood Consultation (VECC)

VECC is a new service funded by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to support high quality teacher-child interactions and social-emotional environments.

VECC builds from AEII’s previous work with early childhood programs to offer individualized coaching and resources for professional development.

Who VECC Serves​

VECC services are available to VQB5 programs with a “Needs Support” Quality Rating.

What VECC Does

Leader-Focused Coaching

Focuses on improving knowledge and skills to promote relationships and teacher well-being and support effective teacher-child interactions. Implemented in all center-based programs with a Needs Support Quality Rating.

Classroom-Focused Coaching

Focuses on building foundational classwide interactions and social-emotional teaching practices to prevent challenging behaviors and improve teacher-child interactions. Implemented in classrooms within center-based programs with a Needs Support Quality Rating.

Family Day Home-Focused Coaching

Incorporates key elements of both Leader- and Classroom-Focused coaching to promote positive classwide teacher-child interactions and social-emotional teaching practices, plus enhance leader-level skills such as reducing exclusionary discipline and collaborating with families. Implemented in Family Day Home programs with a Needs Support Quality Rating.

Child-Focused Coaching

Focuses on strategies to improve a child’s social-emotional skills, positive engagement, and reduce challenging behaviors. Includes collaboration with families and direct supports, including referrals to community resources when needed. Implemented when a child displays severe, frequent and persistent challenging behaviors.

Statewide Webinars

Free quarterly webinars available to VQB5 programs, focused on increasing knowledge of best practices in relationship-building, responsive interactions, and behavioral interventions. All webinars will be recorded and available in English and Spanish.
