Impact of Effective ECE
The AEII initiative is focused on improving early childhood education (ECE) across Virginia’s publicly funded birth-to-five classrooms.
Seeing the Impact Firsthand
From helping early childhood leaders make data-driven decisions to supporting teachers through individualized development, all of AEII’s efforts over the years have served to promote more equitable access to high-quality early learning experiences for all of Virginia’s young children. But, don’t take it from us. Listen to others as they share their experiences.
Through the Eyes of a Child
This is the story of one child’s experience in a high-quality VPI classroom and how it impacted his learning, his family, and the educators who served him. Across Virginia, approximately 100,000 children from birth-to-five participate in publicly subsidized early childhood programs each year. But, not all of those experiences are high quality. Through the AEII initiative, Virginia aims to change this.
Having materials and discussions has helped me realize the importance of listening to each student’s voice and how that connects to who they are and where they come from.

The Impact of Professional Development
Teachers are an essential ingredient in children’s success — in school and in life. In this video, Virginia teachers reflect on their professional development (PD) experiences, growth, and children’s outcomes. AEII aims to provide high-quality PD opportunities that will support and benefit teachers the most.
